ID Austria, developed by A-Trust, is the successor to Austria's Handy-Signatur (mobile phone signature) and Bürgerkarte (citizen card). It enables users to securely identify themselves online, access e-government services, and digitally sign documents with legal validity across Europe.
Key Features of ID Austria:
Qualified Electronic Signature (QES): Allows users to sign PDFs and other documents electronically, ensuring legal recognition throughout Europe.
Access to E-Government Services: Facilitates online completion of official procedures, such as tax adjustments or residence changes, available 24/7, reducing the need for in-person visits.
Digital ID Platform: Serves as a foundation for digital identification, enabling features like digital driving licenses and age verification on smartphones.
Transition from Handy-Signatur to ID Austria:
As of December 5, 2023, the Handy-Signatur has been fully migrated to ID Austria. Users are encouraged to switch to ID Austria to continue accessing e-government and business services. The transition process varies depending on whether the Handy-Signatur was officially registered.
Registration Process:
To obtain ID Austria, users can register through the "Digitales Amt" app or by visiting a registration authority for identity verification. The process may involve providing personal data, a valid Austrian identification document, and, in some cases, a current passport photo.
Security and Privacy:
ID Austria adheres to stringent security and data protection standards, ensuring that users' personal information is handled securely. The system complies with the Austrian e-Government Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
